Rana Abweh realized the growing demand for transparent plastic containers (TPCs) in the local market and regional markets and conducted market research to study the opportunity of starting a TPC producing project in Jordan.

Rana and her husband, Muneer Assi, were able to combine their own money with a JD 50,000 grant from JEDCO and a loan that included an OPIC guarantee through USAID JLGF to purchase the equipment and inventory to start a business. Innovative Packaging was a startup business in Madaba when the loan guarantee was issued in 2013 and was established to produce innovative specialized packaging for Jordanian products such as Dead Sea products, olive oil, chocolates, promotional items and others. The business has a competitive advantage among imported products, which have high shipping costs and can offer only limited customization. Also, Innovative Packaging’s TPCs are made of more environmentally friendly products than competitors using PVC; its polypropylene products are a recyclable material. Innovative Packaging created 10 jobs, 6 of which are held by women.
